Privacy Policy

Overview

ClauseForClarity LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates the ClauseForClarity service at clauseforclarity.com. This Privacy Policy describes what data we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have. We built this service around a core principle: your severance agreement is private, and no human at ClauseForClarity should ever see it.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address. We use this solely for authentication (magic link login) and to communicate important service updates. We do not collect your name, phone number, or physical address during registration.

Uploaded Documents

When you upload a severance agreement, the document is processed in temporary server memory by an automated AI system. The original document is never written to disk, never stored in a database, and never accessible to any human. It is discarded from memory immediately after clause extraction completes.

Extracted Clause Data

We retain structured clause data extracted from your document — for example, severance pay formulas, non-compete durations, COBRA terms, and similar provisions. This data is stored without your name, employer name, or any other personally identifying information from your agreement.

Profile Information

You provide role level, tenure bracket, industry, and state to enable peer matching. This information is stored in association with your account and your anonymized clause data.

Payment Information

Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store credit card numbers, bank account details, or other sensitive financial information on our servers. We receive only a transaction confirmation and your Stripe customer identifier.

Usage Data

We collect standard web analytics data including pages visited, browser type, device type, and referring URL. This data is used to improve the Service and is not linked to your clause data.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to provide the Service (authentication, clause extraction, peer comparison), process payments, improve the Service, communicate important updates or respond to support requests, and generate anonymized aggregate statistics for the peer comparison database.

3. How We Protect Your Data

We've designed ClauseForClarity so your document never needs to be stored. Here's how we protect your information at every stage:

Encryption in transit

All data is encrypted using TLS. Your document travels over an encrypted connection from your browser to our servers — no one can intercept it in between.

Encryption at rest

Stored clause data is encrypted at the database level using AES-256 encryption.

No document storage

Your PDF is never written to disk or stored in a database. It exists only in temporary server memory during extraction, then is discarded immediately. There is no copy of your document anywhere in our systems after processing completes.

Row-level security

Database policies ensure each user can only access their own submissions. Even if our application had a bug, the database layer independently enforces that your data stays private.

No human access

No human at ClauseForClarity ever reads your uploaded document. Extraction is fully automated by an AI system. We never have reason to look at your agreement, and our systems are designed so we can't.

4. Payment Security

Payments are processed by Stripe, which is PCI DSS Level 1 certified — the highest level of payment security certification available. We never store your credit card number. Stripe handles all card data directly, and your payment information is never accessible to ClauseForClarity staff.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We share data only with service providers necessary to operate the Service: Supabase (database and authentication hosting), Stripe (payment processing), Anthropic (AI model provider for document extraction — your document content is sent to their API for processing and is subject to their Privacy Policy), and Vercel (application hosting). We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our legal rights.

6. Anonymized Peer Data

Your clause data contributes to an anonymized peer comparison database. This data is stripped of personally identifying information and is accessible to other users only in aggregate statistical form. No user can view another user's individual submission. Comparisons are only shown when the peer group contains five or more submissions.

7. Data Retention

Uploaded documents are not retained — they are discarded from memory immediately after processing. Your account information and extracted clause data are retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal information will be removed and your clause data will be fully anonymized (disassociated from any account identifier) within 30 days.

8. Your Rights

You can request a copy of all data we hold about you by emailing support@clauseforclarity.com. You can also request deletion of all your submissions and account data — we will process your request within 30 days.

10. Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication session management. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.

11. Children's Privacy
